The Sound of Snow

Exhibition opening – Friday, 23 February, 10 pm
Exhibition from 24 February to 22 April 2018

The exhibition The Sound of Snow features film, video and sound works by Canadian artist Michael Snow (Toronto, 1928). In a body of work incorporating a wide range of artistic media such as painting, sculpture, photography, film and video, Snow's practice also extends to improvised music, experimental cinema and sound installation. Michael Snow's role as a pioneer was recognised early on, both by his peers and critics, and his films are indispensable references in contemporary experimental cinematography. Constructed in a non-chronological way, the exhibition features video installations in which sound plays a key role as well as sound installations involving the viewer, providing an immersive experience of the artist's work.

The exhibition also includes the screening of a selection of films in their original format, as well as a solo piano concert by Michael Snow – a rare occasion to directly experience the subtle humour, immense sophistication and creative freedom of this multifaceted artist's work.
